|Our mission is to provide a family atmosphere which will allow members of our community to learn to their utmost potential, in a warm, supportive environment. We, the unified Heuvelton community, are dedicated to developing the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for our students to be successful, contributing members of our society.|
We begin our day with a 90 minute block of reading. We work for the first 20 minutes as a whole group, and then break into sections as small groups. Students work in a guided group on an individual skill, word working practice in another, and end with reading their individual books at their reading level with a written response to follow.
Daily writing is a must! I love to read student's writing especially if it is from the heart. Students learn a specific type of writing and create a masterpiece each month. We will write about their opinions, complete research, and write personal narratives. They are also required to write a response to their daily reading.
This year grades K-6 are using a new math program called My Math by McGraw Hill. Since grade level curriculum areas have changed, students are learning concepts at a much deeper level. Multiplication and division practice is beneficial to an easier transition. Students will have math homework on most nights.
